Benny A. Holmes, a lifelong resident of Arcadia, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 14, 2026, at the age of 90, while residing at Emerald Nursing and Rehab in Columbus, Nebraska.

Born on November 2, 1935, Benny’s life journey began on the family farm northeast of Arcadia, where he was the son of Samuel A. and Bertha “Edith” (White) Holmes. He received his early education at Glendale Rural School.

Benny’s love for the farm was evident throughout his life, particularly his fondness for tractors and machinery, which remained a passion well into his later years. His professional career was largely spent in the construction industry, contributing to significant projects such as the Interstate-80 and the Diversion Dam.

Loving nature, Ben worked with honey bees for 15 years and took pleasure in watching birds, squirrels, and rabbits visit the feeders.

Beyond work, he attended tractor pulls, enjoyed the challenge of jigsaw puzzles, word finds, and scratch tickets. His leisure moments often included watching television programs such as The Price is Right and listening to Daniel O’Donnell and 50’s country music on the radio.

Benny is survived by his sister, Nancy Lee of Duncan; two nieces, Joanie Olsan and family and Julie Oppliger and family; as well as a host of relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Bonnie Holmes.

Private Inurnment will be held in the Arcadia Cemetery at Arcadia, Nebraska.

Condolences may be mailed to Nancy Lee, P.O. Box 195 Duncan, Nebraska 68634.
