Bernadine Marie
Silver
Apr 26, 1936 — Oct 13, 2026
Ord, NE
On October 13, 2026, Bernadine Marie Silver passed peacefully from this life and was reunited in Heaven with the love of her life.
Bernadine was born on April 26, 1936, on a farm near Elyria, Nebraska. She was the tenth of twelve children born to Frank and Julia (Sobon) Augustyn. She attended country schools and graduated from Ord High School in 1953. She then attended beauty school and worked as a hairdresser in Grand Island and Ord.
On October 25, 1955, she was united in marriage to Ed Silver at the Elyria Catholic Church. Three children were born to this union: Joe, Liz, and Karen. Bernadine and Ed worked together on the farm for many years until they moved to town in 1994.
Bernadine was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and the Altar Society, as well as a lifetime member of the Ord VFW Auxiliary. She served as a Eucharistic Minister both at church and to the homebound.
Bernadine enjoyed playing cards, painting and refinishing wood, completing her daily Sudoku puzzle, and gathering with the coffee gals. She also enjoyed working as a beautician, sharing her hairstyling talents at Grandview Assisted Living and the Ord Nursing Home later in life. She had a well-known dislike of raisins, something those who knew her will always remember with a smile. One of Bernadine’s unexpected joys was her beloved dog, Sammy, who found a special place in her heart.
Above all, Bernadine was the best mom, grandma, and great grandma anyone could ever ask for. To her grandchildren, she was lovingly known as Monga, a name that will forever hold a special place in their hearts.
Those left to cherish her memory include her three children: Joe (Roxi) Silver of Grand Island, Liz (Randy) Powell of Alda, and Karen (Steve) Latter of Lexington; five grandchildren: Lindsay Davis (Brandon Bombeck) and Tyler (Missy) Powell, both of Wood River; Jerrod (Stephanie) Silver of Roca; Ryan Powell (Naomy Snider) of Grand Island; and Christina Silver (Nick Versteeg) of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; nine great-grandchildren: Kinsley Davis, Lexi Powell, Hannah Powell, Tanner Powell, Jude Silver, Willa Silver, Sayla Silver, Beau Versteeg, and Reese Versteeg; and one sister, Rita McCain of Chowchilla, California.
She was welcomed into Heaven by her beloved husband of 46 years, Ed; her parents, Frank and Julia Augustyn; eight brothers, Emanuel, Ted, Ernie, Carl, Roman, Gene, Chester, and Syl; and two sisters, Regina Zulkoski and Marge Mroczek.
Per her wishes, a private family Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord, Nebraska. Father Paul Colling will be the Mass Celebrant. Bernadine will be laid to rest in the Ord Catholic Cemetery beside her beloved husband, Ed who passed away on February 25, 2002.
Those wishing to honor Bernadine’s memory may direct memorials to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Ord, Nebraska.
