Carolyn Hayek

Carolyn Rae Hayek, 82, of Ord passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2022; at the Valley County Health System Hospital in Ord.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2022; at the Ord Christian Church. Pastor Doug Durre will officiate. Interment will be in the Ord City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Heartland Youth Ranch, Ord Christian Church or Ord Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Carolyn Rae was born April 1, 1940, at the family's home in Ord, Nebraska to Emory and Minnie (Zikmund) Thomsen. She was raised in Ord where she received her education and graduated from Ord High School in 1958.

Carolyn spent her entire life in Ord and worked in various capacities in the area. She worked for Gary Ackles at the Chrysler Car Dealership and gas station, at Smith's True Value and Thomsen's Carpets Unlimited in Burwell. Lastly, at the age of 75, she was a waitress at Barb's Café in Burwell.

Carolyn was a member of the Ord Christian Church and a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary. She was active in helping with Awana and teaching VBS. Carolyn enjoyed antiques and attending auctions with her Grand Island friends. She traveled and especially enjoyed attending the Hall County Fair and State Fair Concerts.

Survivors include her siblings, Ruth Smith of Ord; Jeanne Ackles of Seward and Dale and Pam Thomsen of Burwell; and many nieces, nephews and relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant sister; two sisters, Eileen Hoeppner and Virginia Kokes; and a brother, Larry Thomsen.
