David E. Harmon passed away at the age of 77, on October 9, 2026, at his home in Arcadia, Nebraska, surrounded by his loving family.

David Edward Harmon, born on September 13, 1949, in Vermillion, South Dakota, was the son of Donald E. and Lorraine G. Harmon. He was raised in Sioux City, Iowa, where he received his early education and graduated from Alcester High School in 1968. Following high school, he attended South Dakota State University.

Dave built a successful career in sales, beginning with Ed Phillips & Sons in Omaha in 1974, and retiring in 2016 from Cash-Wa Distributing in Kearney. His career was marked by meaningful connections with colleagues and customers at Thompson Co. of Grand Island and Hawkeye Food Service in Iowa.

Dave was a dedicated sports enthusiast, with a passion for golfing. He was a loyal supporter of Husker football, volleyball, and basketball and Chiefs football. Husker game days and holidays were cherished family gatherings, reflecting his love for both sports and family. Dave had an especially strong bond with his four grandchildren and two great grandchildren and cherished the time spent with them.

On September 23, 1972, Dave married Carole Anne Winkel in Omaha, Nebraska. Their 54-year marriage took them to Omaha for 9 years, Columbus for 5 years then to Grand Island in 1986. Following a move to Sioux City, Iowa in 2001, they returned to the Grand Island area in 2010 to be closer to their daughters and their spouses and the grandchildren. The final move was in 2024, when they settled in Arcadia; to be near their daughter, Leslie and husband, Cameron as Dave’s health was declining. Their daughter, Kelli and husband, Brad, were also very helpful in caring for Dave. Because of this, Dave was able to remain at home until his passing.

Dave was a fighter to the end and left this world peacefully, surrounded by loved ones. His family will love him and hold him forever in their hearts.

Survivors include his wife, Carole; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kelli and Brad Rapp and Leslie and Cameron Calleroz; four grandchildren, Gage Rose, Anna Rose (Tryon Calleroz), Jill Rose (Bobby Barnard) and Amie Rose; two great grandchildren, Vivian Rose and Leo David Calleroz; step grandchildren, Alex (Thomas) Spilinek, Tige (Bailey) Calleroz, Trevon (Macy) Calleroz; Tryon Calleroz (Anna Rose); Cambria Calleroz; four step great grandchildren; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Dan and Karen Harmon, Dean and Lisa Harmon and Don and Terry Harmon; a sister, Darlys Miller; in-laws, Dan and Carolyn Winkel, Steve and Nancy Winkel, Dianne Winkel, Ellen and Toli Polewik, Susan and Doug Boden, Judy Winkel; and thirty-nine nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, David Sr. and Carole Winkel; brother and sister-in-law, Doug and Linda Harmon; in-laws, David Jr. and Paula Winkel, Dick Winkel, Mark and Dawn Winkel; and nephews, David Winkel III and Jeffrey Winkel.

Condolences can be mailed to Carole Harmon, P.O. Box 34, Arcadia, NE 68815
