Donald John was born October 27, 1930, to Frank E. and Martha L. (Carty) Beran, at Ord, Nebraska, where his family farmed and ran the Ord hardware store. He enjoyed playing sports and became a life-long Husker fan.
After graduating from Ord High School, he enlisted in the US Army and served in the 3 rd Armored Division. While serving in Europe during the Korean War, he suffered critical injuries and was hospitalized for several months. After not hearing from him for so long, his family feared the worst. However, they were greatly relieved to find him alive, and soon to be home.
Don married Jane E. Gates from Arcadia, Nebraska. The couple had one son, Douglas Beran. They lived in Minneapolis, Denver, and finally settled in Sidney, Nebraska. Don traveled the U.S. working in sales for Coleman and El Dorado; and was president and part owner of other RV companies. He also lived in Indiana and California, before settling in Salina, Kansas, where he owned "Coaches", a popular sports bar in Salina.
Don enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time at Lake McConaughy in Nebraska. He also loved social events, time with friends in Salina, and made it a point to attend every family event that he could. He was a member of the Lion's Club, Elk's Club, VFW; and many other organizations. Don volunteered his time and served on the board at the D.A.V. and delivered meals during the holidays. In his spare time, he traveled to Casper, Wyoming to visit his grandchildren and watch them participate in sports and other activities.
In his later years, Don was blessed to have compassionate caregivers to provide comfort in his final years. He will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Paula Beran; and their two children, Zachary and Hannah Beran all of Casper, Wyoming; his brother, Dick Beran of Ord; two sisters-in-law, Juanita (Mrs. Frank) Beran of Sargent and Marsha (Mrs. Rol) Beran of Yankton, South Dakota; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his ex-wife, Jane Beran; brothers, Vernon "VJ" Beran, Frank Beran, Roland "Rol" Beran; infant brother, Joseph; a sister, Alice Rogers; sisters-in-law, Cecile Beran, Catherine "Scotty" Beran and Pat Beran; and brother-in-law, Carson Rogers.
