Duane Lee Kingston, age 77, of Amherst, Nebraska, passed away September 24, 2023, at his farm in Valley County.
Duane was born on October 1, 1945, to Orin and Lillian Kingston in Sargent, Nebraska. He grew up on a farm west of Arcadia with his parents and sister, Linda. He attended a one-room schoolhouse north of where he lived until the 8th grade, and graduated Arcadia High School.
Following high school Duane attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln where he graduated with a BS in physical education and an MS in education. He started his career as a teacher and coach at Westwood High School in Sloan, Iowa. After starting a family, Duane sold insurance and worked in the pharmaceutical industry for most of his working career until he retired.
Duane enjoyed all activities of the outdoors including hunting, fishing, trapping, golfing, and working on his farm. He especially enjoyed hunting, which took him to places in Canada, Alaska, throughout the continental US, Mexico, Australia, and Africa. As a former coach, Duane loved athletics and supported his kids and grandkids at their many activities and athletic events throughout the years.
He is survived by his children, Kent (Wendy) Kingston of Pleasanton, Kyan (Alison) Kingston of Omaha, and Kari Kingston of Omaha; his 8 grandchildren, Kray, Ryelan, Grant, Brooke, Brady, Elisa, Camila, and Isak. Duane is also survived by former spouse and mother to his children, Donna Kingston of Omaha; former spouse, Brenda Kingston of Kearney; and son, Beau (Morgan) Sheen of Omaha, his sister, Linda Markussen of Lincoln; and several nieces and nephews and families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Orin and Lillian of Arcadia; and nephew, Tyce Markussen of Omaha.
Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 2, 2023; at Grace Lutheran Church in Pleasanton, Nebraska. Pastor Dean Hanson will officiate. The family will greet friends prior to the service, beginning at 9:00 a.m. A luncheon will be held following the service at the church.
Memorials are suggested to Grace Lutheran Church, or to the family, to be designated at a later time.
