Joseph L Glaser, age 69, of Wheeler County, Nebraska, passed away on June 6, 2026, surrounded by his family.
Joe was born January 8, 1957, in Ord, Nebraska, the son of Bernard and Joan (McCarthy) Glaser. Joe spent his formative years in Greeley, Nebraska and graduated high school in Ansley, Nebraska.
Following graduation Joe enlisted in the United States Navy and served until 1977. He was stationed aboard the USS Okinawa and traveled throughout the Pacific Ocean. After completing his service, Joe worked for Union Pacific Railroad as a foreman, maintaining train tracks from Nebraska to California. In 1980, he met his wife of 45 years, Lee Erickson, in Cheyenne, Wyoming, while learning to country swing and making mischief.
The couple moved to Lincoln, Nebraska in 1985, where they raised two daughters, Jacqi and Jenni. Joe attended UNL, then worked at T.O. Haas, and finished his career at Trafcon Inc. He became a well-known figure in the road construction industry for his expertise in traffic control and safety. In his later years, with the help of his family, he completed the construction of his home on land originally belonging to his great-grandparents near Pibel Lake in Wheeler County.
Joe enjoyed golfing, traveling to Nebraska football games, spending time with his large family and friends, feeding his birds, and spending time with his dogs, Anna, Lily, Daisy, and River (Dog). He will be remembered for his warmth, infectious laugh, sense of humor, and the care he showed to everyone around him.
He is survived by his wife, Lee Glaser; daughter and son-in-law, Jacqi and Lane Blobaum; four brothers and sister-in-law, Bernie Glaser and Marsha Babcock, of Elmwood, Nancy Glaser of Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, Ed and Marilyn Glaser of Lincoln and Jan and Pam Glaser of Spalding; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Carlene and Larry Bourn of Spalding, Joanie and Art Rivera of Gold Canyon, Arizona, Marlene Sorenson of Lincoln and Maurene and Mark Obermeyer of Wahoo; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Jenni Glaser; a sister, Gina Dunning and a brother, Jerry Glaser.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on June 13, 2026, at his home near Pibel Lake, 49848 823rd Road, Spalding, Nebraska and in Lincoln at Duffy’s at 4:00 p.m. on June 14, 2026,
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Joe Glaser to Nebraska Public Radio.
