Ruth Mahoney

Martha Ruth Mahoney, 85, of Spalding, died Friday February 5, 2021, at the Greeley Care Home in Greeley Nebraska.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 18, 2021; at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spalding. Father Antony Thekkekara will be the Celebrant. The family will receive friends on Thursday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until service time.

For the health and safety of others social distancing and face masks are required for those attending the visitation and funeral.

Martha "Ruth" Mahoney was born June 11, 1935, in Mount Sterling Kentucky, to George A Rassenfoss Sr. and Ruth (Chambers) Rassenfoss.

Ruth married Leo Mahoney on June 17, 1978, at the Church of the Annunciation in Paris, Kentucky.

Ruth received her education in Kentucky and received her degree from Saint Catherine's College in Springfield and Spalding College in Louisville, Kentucky. She spent her entire adult life as a teacher for the Catholic School Systems in Nebraska.

Ruth carried a deep love for her husband, Leo, her students, friends, community and St. Michael's Catholic Church. Ruth and Leo Mahoney gave the children of Spalding Mr. & Mrs. Santa Claus for 10 years, and always expressed to her family how much both of them enjoyed their role at Christmas.

Survivors of the immediate family include a brother, Edward Rassenfoss, of Frankfort, Kentucky; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leo; her sister, Mary Alice Rassenfoss; and three brothers, George, John and Bill Rassenfoss.
