Obituary

Mary E. Poss, 78, of North Loup passed away unexpectedly at her home in North Loup on Sunday, April 28, 2024.

Mary Elizabeth was born October 12, 1945, at Central City, Nebraska to Ernest E. and Beulah Peterson. She was raised in the Central City area where she received her education and graduated from Central City High School in 1964.

On June 6, 1964, Mary was united in marriage to Donald Poss at the Methodist Church in Scotia, Nebraska. The couple first lived on a farm outside of North Loup before moving to Grand Island. While living in Grand Island, Mary worked at the Ordinance Plant and Delicious Foods.  In 1979, she moved to Scotia and owned and operated the Scotia Café'.

In 1994, Mary purchased a home in North Loup where she resided until recently moving to NoLo Villa. Mary worked in area nursing homes including St. Paul and Greeley; she also did housekeeping and cooked at the North Loup Café'

She was a member of the Scotia United Methodist Church. Mary spent time working puzzles, sewing and quilting. She enjoyed being outdoors in her garden and watching the birds and squirrels. Mary was a wonderful cook and especially enjoyed her family and grandkids.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Russell Timmons of North Loup; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Keith Poss of North Loup and Kevin and Jodi Poss of St. Paul; eight grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; a sister, Linda Church (Duane Zessin) of Madison; and a brother and sister-in-law, Jerome and Lavone Solomon of Central City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two step-fathers, Art Funk and Buster Jensen; and her son, Randy Poss.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at the Scotia United Methodist Church. Pastor Arsene Lumami will officiate. She will be laid to rest in the Mt. Hope Cemetery at Scotia, Nebraska at a later date.
