Meda Long

Meda L. Long, 100, of Ord passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2019, at the Valley View Living Center in Ord.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2019, at the Ord Memorial Chapel with Richard Gasser and Eric Sterling officiating. Burial will be in the Ord City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Ord Memorial Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Donor's Choice. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Meda was born in Ord to Harry and Jennie (Cronk) Clement and grew up on a farm 15 miles north of Ord. She and her two sisters, Kathryn Fowler and Velma Seaman walked to Joint Country School, 3 miles away from their home. Meda attended Ord High School and graduated in 1938. She worked for her room and board while living in Ord with various families and was assistant librarian at the Ord Library.

Meda married Donald Eli Long, September 9, 1939, in Loup City, Nebraska. Meda and Don had two daughters, Harriet Cleo and Donna Lea. Meda and Don moved to Ord and Meda began working at the Ord Quiz, where she worked for three generations of Leggets for over 33 years. Unlike most women of her generation she had her own checking account. Upon her retirement from the Quiz in 1980, Don and Meda moved to Hubbell, Nebraska. Meda worked at Foote's Cafe as a cashier and baker for 9 years.

Meda found joy in her family and entertaining in the family home. There was always a pot of coffee on the stove and something delicious on the counter or in the freezer. In Meda's later years, dominoes were one of her favorite games.

In February 2007, Meda suffered several mild strokes and moved to Grandview, where she thrived and became the resident "Chamber of Commerce", welcoming new residents and spreading her cheery personality and sweet spirit.

After a debilitating stroke, she moved to the Ord Senior Living Nursing Home where she remained until her death.

Survivors include her two daughters, Harriet Forbes and Donna Gates; grandchildren, Kimball Hall, Michael Hall, Colleen Crown, and Corey Lindley; great grandchildren, Alexa Hall, Emily Hall, Sydney Gates and Dakota Lindley; step-grandchildren; and her sister, Kathryn Fowler.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald E. Long; and her sister, Velva Seaman.
