Norman Paul
Bredthauer
Apr 20, 1960 — Jul 4, 2026
Norman Paul Bredthauer, of Arcadia, Nebraska, dear brother and friend, was called to his Heavenly Home on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at the Community Memorial Health Center in Burwell, Nebraska, at the age of 66. After years of health struggles, loss of strength and both legs he was confined to a bed, not even able to drive his electric wheelchairs.
Norman was born April 20, 1960, in Ord, Nebraska to Herbert and Vivian Dorothy (Holtz) Bredthauer. He graduated from Ord High School in 1978 and Curtis Technical College in 1980.
Norm worked at Ravenna John Deere for two years. In 1981, he returned to the farm; farming for forty-five years and the last five years with Jeff Pritchard.
Farming was in his blood; especially driving a tractor or combine. He loved the Bredthauer Tabletop Farm's quiet, open air, the vistas and rich soil. Nature's seasons allowed planting and harvest times. He met challenges with patience, hard work, tenacity, and determination. A 4th generation Valley County farmer, he was proud of making agricultural updates, early no till methods, longest irrigation pivot in Valley County for years, and coordinated selling hogs in Sargent. Despite frustrations over the years, he maintained his calm, humble, hopeful attitude. Seldom complained. He quoted "God won't send us more than we can handle." His sure trust and faith in God were deep and quiet.
Survivors include two brothers and a sister-in-law, Marty and Karen Bredthauer of Broken Bow and Jake Bredthauer of Ord; a sister and brother-in-law, Jan and Dan Hollingworth of Billings, Montana; nieces and nephews, Troy Bredthauer, Lance Bredthauer and his wife, Shu and their children, Mercedes, Vivian, Daphne, Hans and Ophelia, Brooke Bredthauer, and Kelsey Shay, and her husband Riley, and their children Raine, Raelyn, Rosette and Remington; along with a host of family, friends and neighbors.
Norman was preceded in death by his parents and younger brother, Alan on July 4th, 2025.
Norm and his family are appreciative of his dedicated health care providers, Burwell Community Memorial Health Center, Kristina Radke RN WOC, and unnamed neighbors and friends who helped.
