Obituary

Richard D. "Dick" Peterson, 95, of Ord passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2023; at the CHI Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska.

Richard D. "Dick" Peterson was born September 30, 1927, in Valley County, Nebraska to Albert and Helen (Hanke) Peterson. He was the oldest of four siblings. Dick attended grade school in Mira Valley and graduated from Ord High School in 1944, at the age of sixteen.

One of Dick's classmates was Arlene Timmerman.  The couple was united in marriage on December 3, 1948; and was blessed with five children, Milton "Dean", Mark, Connie, Robert, and Carol.

Dick worked with his dad on the farm and then enlisted in the United States Army. He served in the occupation of Japan following the end of World War II. When he returned home, he and Arlene married and began their family. For most of his life Dick was a farmer and cattleman; and also loved horses.

In the mid- 1980's Dick and Arlene moved to Mesa, Arizona and resided there until 2001 when they returned home to Ord after Arlene became ill. They both sold real estate in Arizona and made many friends! They both loved those Arizona years!

Dick was a member of the Mira Valley United Methodist Church. He was active in the community; and in the VFW, serving in various positions.

Left to remember Dick's rich life are his children, Mark (Shannon) Peterson of Ord, Connie (Ron) Cox of Kearney, Robert (Sally) Peterson of Lincoln; and Carol (Jim) Gergen of Topeka, Kansas; a brother, Merlyn Peterson; a sister, Laverna Heesch; and his many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Arlene in 2008; his infant son, Milton "Dean" who passed away at the age of 3 months; and a sister, Lorene Hudson.
