Frances Ann Stone of Ord, formerly of Sargent, passed away peacefully at Arbor Care Center in Ord, Nebraska on November 8, 2025, at the age of 84.

Born on October 19, 1941, in Custer County, Nebraska, Frances was the beloved daughter of Joseph E. and Emma (Visek) Zikmund. She was raised in Comstock, where she completed her education and graduated from high school.

On December 31, 1961, Frances united in marriage with Edwin D. Stone, Sr. in Comstock, Nebraska. Together, they shared many years of partnership, including their enterprise in the wood cutting business. Frances’s work life was diverse; she contributed as a telephone operator in Omaha, worked for Mutual of Omaha, babysat children and cared for pets, and was employed at Leon Chemicals Manufacturing Company. Her life’s path also took her to Glenns Ferry, Idaho, where she worked at Magic West Potato Factory and later assisted in the kitchen at the Sargent School.

Frances had a variety of interests. She enjoyed the mental challenge of crossword and circle word puzzles, explored treasures at yard sales, taking walks and expressed her creativity through embroidery. Music held a special place in her heart as she played both the clarinet and piano. Her fondness for rodeos and animals, particularly horses and dogs, was well known among those who loved her. Frances found joy in watching game shows, agility competitions, Husker football, Olympic events, and ice skating.

Her commitment to family was profound, and Frances treasured every moment spent with her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and was involved in 4-H.

Survivors include a son, Edwin Stone, Jr. of Glenns Ferry, Idaho; four daughters, Brenda Coker of Ord, Debbie (Bill) Gumb of Sargent, Delynn Hoover of Dunning and Mary (Al) Lyons of Beatrice; twelve grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Eldon Zikmund of Grand Island and Larry (Judy) Zikmund of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Leo and Alvin Zikmund; nephew, Allen Zikmund; and friends, Carol Cuddeback, Dot Johnson and Viola Streeter.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at the National Hall west of Ord. Frances and her husband, Edwin will be laid to rest in the National Bohemian Cemetery, west of Ord, Nebraska.
